The self instructional materials are supplied to the students in the form of several booklets called blocks.
Study Materials by IGNOU
Unlike conventional Universities, IGNOU is more learner–oriented and the students have an active role in the learning and teaching process. Most of the knowledge is imparted to the students through distance mode with only a small component of face-to–face communication. The primary form of study materials are the self instructional materials supplied by IGNOU themselves through the LSCs. The self instructional materials are supplied to the students in the form of several booklets called blocks. Each block comprises several units. The students expected to study a single unit in a session of about 4 to 6 hours. These self instructional materials are made available both in printed and electronic form through IGNOU eContent App and eGyankosh website. It is to be noted that studying these self instructional materials alone won’t be sufficient to write up the assignments and prepare for the term-end examinations. The students should also do some additional readings.

Swayamprabha DTH channel 19, eGyankosh and IGNOU eContent app are some of the digital repositories that consist of the reference links of self instructional materials, recorded videos, youtube video archives etc… Swayam Prabha -DTH channel 19 is funded by MoE, Govt.of India and Coordinated by IGNOU, New Delhi. This channel exclusively covers IGNOU’s Professional and vocational Education Programs. The video lectures covered and broadcasted by the channel are actually delivered by faculties of Ignou and also by professors from other prominent universities in India.

Paid books and Materials
Other than the self instructional materials and e-resources IGNOU comes up with reference books and counseling sessions at their LSCs and RCs. Though it is very rare to have a face to face communication/contact between the student and teacher in the distance education mode, IGNOU provides such an opportunity to help the students to clear and clarify their doubts regarding their subject. The counseling sessions will only be held on Sundays and Saturdays at RCs.
